Healing From Trauma (Without Having to Talk It All Through)

If you’ve been through something difficult, you already know how it feels. The flashbacks, the racing heart, and that “on edge” feeling that just won’t go away. You might want help, but the thought of sitting in a room and describing every painful detail sounds overwhelming in itself—maybe even impossible.

That’s why we can work differently. Instead of digging into the past, our sessions focus on how your life is being impacted right now. We talk about the things holding you back today—the sleep issues, the places you’re avoiding, or the way anxiety is showing up in your relationships—rather than the incident itself. That’s where I use Rewind Therapy.

What exactly is Rewind Trauma Therapy®?

I use the IARTT method (developed by Dr. David Muss). It’s often called the “non-disclosure” technique because it stops intrusive memories in their tracks without you having to say a single word about the details of what happened, if you don’t want to.

Think of it as a way to move a “stuck” memory. When we go through trauma or something difficult, the memory stays “live,” which is why it feels so real when you’re triggered. Rewind helps your brain finally move that memory away into the past where it belongs.

How it works

At first, I will use a form with questions to check your current level of distress. I will use this form at the beginning of every session, to check in on your progress.

Then, we talk about how you are feeling, and how your life is impacted by what happened. I’ll guide you into a relaxed state. You’ll imagine yourself in a safe place, and from that secure position, you will go into the difficult memory for a very short time—usually only around 2 minutes. Then, we “rewind” the footage in your mind at high speed. By doing this, we “file” the memory away. You’ll still remember that the event happened, but your brain will slowly learn, week by week, that the danger has passed, allowing that “fight or flight” panic to simply fade away.

How it can help?

Rewind is for anyone who feels “haunted” by a past event. Whether it happened last month or twenty years ago, it can help with:

  • Abuse & Violence: Sexual abuse, physical or mental abuse, and victims of violence.
  • Accidents & Medical Trauma: Car accidents, traumatic birth, or trauma from surgery.
  • Personal Attacks: Attacks, robbery, or past bullying.
  • Terrifying Experiences: Feelings of being trapped or severe phobias.
  • Symptoms: Flashbacks, nightmares, disturbed sleep.

Sessions & Costs

We usually meet for 3 to 5 sessions in total. If you feel better sooner, we can stop at any time.

  • First Session: This is a session lasting 1.5 hours to ensure we have plenty of time to talk about how the incident, accident or trauma affects you, and teach you the technique. The cost for this session is £95.

  • Follow-up Sessions: These are 1 hour long and are charged at my standard rate of £65.

Further Support

For many people, Rewind Therapy is enough on its own. Once those intrusive memories are filed away and you’re feeling like yourself again, we can stop therapy right there.

However, sometimes, Rewind Therapy might not be enough, or other things might come to the surface, or you may find there are different areas of your life you’d like to explore. If that happens, I can provide ongoing counselling support to help you approach those challenges.
